Giving back to our communities. This has been a core value of Irwin Union Bank since our founding date of 1871. Every year the Bank makes significant contributions to local charitable causes. Plus thousands of our employees volunteer with area charities - from youth services to arts organizations to health centers. We do this by:
- Providing financial and volunteer support to groups that address the needs of at-risk children due to reduced financial resources and those who are differently able.
- Investing in our communities by assisting organizations that create affordable housing and similar resource pools for families working toward self-sufficiency.
- Supporting activities that contribute significantly to community and economic development, including those elements that enhance the quality of life - such as the arts - in our communities.
- Contributing 80% of our charitable budgets toward at-risk youth and affordable housing.
Meeting unique community needs. Sometimes there is a special need beyond our ongoing responsibility to support organizations and causes in our communities. In early June this year, our headquarters community of Columbus, Indiana, was ravaged by a 100-year flood. Hundreds of homes and businesses were damaged. Some roads became impassable due to structural damage. And the local hospital, which sustained approximately $110 million in property damage, had to move its services to a number of temporary sites.
In response to this devastation, Irwin Union Bank embraced initiatives to help the community in its time of need.
- Thanks to local employee contributions that currently total $12,517 and an accompanying 1:1 match from Irwin Financial Foundation, the Bank is providing more than $25,000 to the flood recovery fund for Columbus Regional Hospital.
- Including the donation to Columbus Regional Hospital, Irwin Financial Foundation has pledged a total of $100,000 for area flood relief efforts.
- In conjunction with its hospital fund-raising efforts, the Bank also donated a total of $8,000 to other flood relief efforts for friends, neighbors, coworkers and the Red Cross. This gift was also a combined gift from employees and the Foundation.
- We donated 300 fans to help local residents stay cool and dry out their homes. Our dedicated employees delivered 200 of them personally.
- The local hospital is currently using Bank-owned office space as a temporary facility.
- Many flood victims no longer have a secure place to store valuables at home, so the Bank is making safe deposit boxes available at no charge.
